Although matrix is our favorite stone, it's not our only one. We often make weeklong trips to the world's best agate fields at Agate Creek. If we leave the house at first light, we can be there with the camp set up, dinner in the coals, and specking for agate in the light of the setting sun . . . next to sunrise, the most perfect time to search. The morning light is sharper, and if you move into the light at that angle it shows through the stones on the ground.This page contains a few sorts of rocks that caught our fancy because they look like an image, have a nice shape, or are just downright strange. Weird 25 weight: 55 grams. Size: 55 x 50 x 15 mm. Agate from Agate Creek, north Queensland. Totally natural and untouched, just like it came out of the creek. Weird all right. Price: $150

Weird 20 weight: 3.2 grams total both pieces. Size: 16 x 13 x 9.5 mm. when fitted together. Boulder Opal split seam. Price: $150

Weird 36 weight: 10.8 grams. Size: 35 x 17 x 17 mm. Carnelian All natural, untouched, just like it came out of Agate Creek. One of the neatest pieces I've ever found Price: $150

Weird 24 weight: 88 grams total both pieces. Size: 75 x 40 x 25 mm. when joined together. One Yowah Nut sawn in half. Price: $350

Weird 13 weight: 7.1 grams total weight both pieces. Size: 26 x 13 x 8.5 mm. when fitted together. Price: $180

Weird 02 weight: 19.4 grams total. Size: 39 x 30 x 13 mm. when fitted together. Boulder opal split from Quilpie, Queensland What do you suppose was in this stone 12 million years ago that prevented the opal from filling the center? It was empty when we opened it. Weird 01 weight: 30.4 grams. A good sized piece of Yowah Nut On this side of the stone there is a crack with a side-crack leading off of it. The crack does not go through to the back of the stone. Germans would call it a "handschmeichler", Yanks a "worry stone". Price: $420
